Levels

Members earn XP from messages and voice activity, and gain levels and roles.

Updated 24 Sep 2026

Members earn XP for sending messages and for time spent in voice channels. XP converts to levels, and levels can grant roles.

Earning XP

Messages earn a random amount of XP, at most once per minute. The cooldown prevents XP being farmed by sending messages rapidly.

Voice channels earn a random amount for each full minute spent in one.

By default, in voice chats, members do not earn XP while muted or deafened, while alone, or in the server's AFK channel. These rules are configurable.

Multipliers

A channel or role can earn at a different rate, such as a bonus channel at double or a booster role at 1.5 times.

Channels and roles can also be set to earn no XP at all.

Level-up announcements

Announcements can be sent to the channel the member was active in, to one fixed channel, by direct message, or not at all. Role rewards are still granted when announcements are disabled.

A member who gains several levels at once receives one announcement for the level they finish on, not one per level.

A level gained in voice is announced in that voice channel's own text chat. If the member has already left it, or a fixed announcement channel is set, the announcement goes there instead.

Role rewards

A level can be linked to one or more roles, which are granted when a member reaches it. Members can keep every reward earned along the way, or only the one for their highest level.

A change to the rewards applies to everyone, not only to members who level up afterwards. Adding a reward gives it to every member already past that level, and removing one takes it back from everyone who has it. This runs in the background, a batch of members at a time, and reports its progress in your server log channel, or your mod log channel, if one is set.

Rewards require Manage Roles, and each reward role must sit below the TalciGrade role.

Achievements

Members can also earn achievements: milestones for levels, messages, voice time and reactions, each with its own XP and role.

Changing XP by hand

/xp add, /xp remove and /xp set change a member's XP, /xp reset sets one member back to zero, and /xp resetall resets everyone in the server. Reward roles follow the new level. These need the Leveling permission.

The leaderboard

/leaderboard shows the top 10 members, with a menu to switch between XP, voice time, reactions, this week and this month.

Every server also has a public leaderboard page. Its link is on the Leveling page of the Dashboard.

Setting it up

Open Leveling > Settings on the Dashboard for XP rates and announcements, Leveling > Rewards for role rewards, Leveling > Multipliers for bonus rates, Leveling > No-XP for exclusions, and Leveling > Achievements for achievements.
