Getting started

Adding the bot

The invite, the permissions TalciGrade needs, and where its role has to sit.

Updated 9 Aug 2026

Add TalciGrade from the website, or run /invite in a server that already has it. The link includes the permissions below.

What the permissions are for

The link asks for Administrator, which covers everything below, and for each of these on its own as well, so TalciGrade keeps what it needs if Administrator is unticked.

Permission Why it is needed
View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links Reading your channels, and posting its replies and messages
Read Message History, Attach Files Reading a ticket back to build its transcript, and posting the transcript file
Add Reactions Marking counting numbers right or wrong
Manage Roles Assigning roles, and removing them from a member causing damage
Manage Channels Locking channels during a raid, and creating ticket channels
Ban Members, Kick Members Moderation, and stopping an attack in progress
Moderate Members Timeouts
Manage Webhooks Removing webhooks an attacker creates, and the updates feed
View Audit Log Identifying who performed an action
Manage Messages Deleting messages during a purge or an AutoMod removal
Manage Server Reading invites, to track who invited each member
Create Private Threads, Create Public Threads, Send Messages in Threads, Manage Threads Tickets opened as threads, and the thread that keeps a closed ticket's images
Connect Setting up stats channels, which members can see but not join

Role position

The TalciGrade role must sit above the roles it manages.

Discord does not allow a bot to act on anyone whose highest role is above its own. A bot placed at the bottom of the role list will detect an attack and be unable to stop it.

This is enforced by Discord and cannot be worked around.

To change it, open Server Settings > Roles and drag TalciGrade above the roles it needs to manage.

  • Move the TalciGrade role above the roles it will manage
  • Set a mod log channel, so moderation actions are recorded somewhere visible
  • Open Permissions and grant your staff roles what they need
  • Review Security and adjust the thresholds to suit your server
  • Turn on the log categories you want
